Historic Fort Wayne Investigation

In July, C.A.P. investigators, Doug and Karen were able to conduct a daytime investigation at Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit. It is a Civil War era fort that never saw battle, but seems to have it's share of paranormal activity. The weather was perfect and there were only a handful of people seen the entire day. The investigation was limited to the sally ports and a building that is nicknamed the "lemonade house". The "lemonade house" is usually locked (except for the basement which houses bathrooms), but fortunately the door to the upstairs of the building was open.

The first place investigated was the main sally port. At this time, there were only 2 other people noted at the fort and they were not near the barracks or sally ports. An EVP session was held with one digital recorder put on the top of the door to the sally port (right outside the open room we were in) and the other was held in Karen's hand. The extremely heavy outer door was closed and locked from the inside, so no one could come in that way from outside. The other end of the tunnel was open, but the minute anyone steps inside, you are immediately aware of it as any sound is amplified by the brick walls, floor and ceiling. On other occasions we have tried to enter without either being seen or being heard and found that it's just not possible. The EVP session lasted about a half hour and no one entered the sally port the entire time Doug and Karen were there. When reviewing audio evidence, they were surprised to hear what sounded like footsteps coming down the tunnel to the sally port and the sound of a door opening. There is no way that they wouldn't have seen or heard this if it had been a real person. They would have had to un-bolt the door and open it and by doing so, let in the bright sunshine that Doug and Karen would have seen while in the sally port. Almost the exact same footsteps were captured about 12 minutes later. You can listen to those EVPs on our evidence page. We think that this may be residual. We also obtained two other EVPs, but are unable to understand what is being said. You can listen to those on our evidence page as well.

The EVP session of the "lemonade house" yeilded no results, but Doug and Karen were thrilled to have explored this really cool building during the day uninterrupted.

C.A.P. hopes to return to Historic Fort Wayne in the near future. To learn more about the Fort, please visit the Historic Fort Wayne Coalition website. We highly recommend visiting the Fort if you get a chance. It truly is one of Michigan's undiscovered treasures!
